New found success for Buffalo Football
The Buffalo Bills, an NFL team based in Buffalo has had a much better start to this NFL season than in recent years
In past seasons, the Buffalo Bills have not had much success in the NFL. In this current decade, the Bills have had only 2 seasons with a positive Win/Loss record, compared to 6 negative record seasons, and 1 even record season. Most of the team’s success came in the early 90’s where they went to 4 straight super bowls, but unfortunately lost all of those super bowls as well. This season, the bills have had a good start, with a 6-2 record for the first half of games they will play. With things looking up this year, I wanted to see how people in and around football felt about the current season.
I was able to ask a friend of mine, Mason Prater, a huge fan of the Bills, his thoughts on their recent success. Mason responded saying “I'm cautiously optimistic; I'm enjoying the fact that we're seeing more success than we have for a long time, but I'm worried that we'll forget that we're still an underdog team. We have to remember that we're not done rebuilding just yet, and that every game--win or lose--is an opportunity for us to better ourselves”. A quick thing to note is that many sports fans refer to their team as “we” when talking about them. I also wanted to know what some sports analyst had to say about this.
I was also able to get in touch with the comedic sports analyst on YouTube by the username of UrinatingTree (Steve being his real name) who has a following of over 300,000 subscribers on the site. I asked him the same question that I asked Mason and he answered with “I think they’re in the right direction. They still need a bit of work, especially on offense in regards to Josh Allen’s development, but the defense is pretty sturdy. They aren’t chasing any trends, so I like what they’re doing”. Considering back in June of 2017 that Steve had released a video about the Bills titled “Buffalo: The Walking Mediocrity of Professional Sports”, it seems not only fans attitudes have changed but also part of public opinion. This also begs the question; how do the Bills players feel about their recent success?
A player from the Bills, Lorenzo Alexander, was on The Pat McAfee Show last Tuesday and talked about the team during the interview held on the radio show. When asked: “What has been the thing that has made you guys better this year?”, Alexander responded by saying. “We have great leadership in every single role, it has been great to be around a team that is so close knitted. When things go badly on the sideline, there really isn’t ever any finger pointing. We just try to figure how to get the solution, and get it right”. With how the Bills are doing this season, there is a lot more positivity around them then there has been in the past.
This past weekend the Bills played against the Cleveland Browns and lost a close game, 19 – 16. Even with the loss, the Bills are at 6 – 3 on the season and are 2nd in their Division in the AFC East, with a playoff spot still well within their reach.
